The organization that I chose to research was The Global Fund for Children. I initially
tried to make contact with two professionals from another Country but had no success
with this. I had also subscribed to the news letters from both the Global fund
for Children and Save the Children. I have found a lot of very useful information
about both of these organizations.
The Global fund for
Children
On the Global fund for Children website I read many
interesting articles. The first article, Human
Trafficking Awareness Day: An Everyday Remembrance, spoke of how many children
were victims of human trafficking. “As we observe National Human
Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11, it is important to remember that an
estimated 20 million men, women, and children around the globe are still
victims of human trafficking. According to the International Labor
Organization, 5.5 million children and youth are subjected to forced labor,
sexual and gender abuse, and other involuntary servitude and slavery-like
conditions.” (Diallo, 2014)
The
article 4 Steps to Freedom: How Community-Based Organizations Rescue
Trafficked Children, spoke of the four steps in which this article
pointed out would help stop trafficking was to reach out, rescue, recover, and Reintegrate.
“It is hard to imagine how anyone could put a price tag on another person’s
life, especially a child’s. Yet that is the reality for the millions of
children worldwide who are bought and sold as commodities in the lucrative
human trafficking industry.” (Fisher, 2014)
The last article, Giving a
Voice to Ukraine’s Orphans, spoke of the Orphans in Ukraine. “One of the groups
left behind in Ukrainian society, as in other former Soviet countries, is
orphans. The Soviet Union passed along to the newly independent states like
Ukraine a broken and outdated system of institutions to care for orphans and
other vulnerable groups such as children living with disabilities. These
institutions rarely allowed children to learn for themselves or gain
responsibility, even as they grew older and closer to graduating from the
equivalent of secondary school. Ukrainian orphans left their institutions as
young adults with few life skills and little preparation for living in a
society that mostly wanted nothing to do with them.” (Bednarek, 2013)
Within all of these articles I became more aware of all the
things that are going on in this world that are often unsettling and bring
sadness to mind.
